Mr. Hercka, what is the Walkeweg school building about – and what role do sustainability goals such as SNBS certification play?
The Walkeweg school building is a flagship project in terms of sustainability for all involved: the client, the planners, and the entrepreneurs.
Compliance with the set goals and standards according to SNBS is therefore a particular focus.
From your perspective, what is the biggest hurdle to sustainable building today – and what is needed to overcome it?
Binding sustainability requires documentation, documentation means bureaucracy, bureaucracy means time – and nobody in the construction industry has time. Streamlining processes and improving usability in this area will benefit everyone.
How big a challenge is it to test around 600 building products for their sustainability in a new building project?
This challenge is huge, especially due to the individuality of the projects.
