Why Materius exists.
The idea for Materius originated from the practice of sustainability consulting.
Sustainability experts at EBP experienced it on every certified construction project: managing building products is incredibly time-consuming. Gathering documentation, conducting manual material tests, and managing data in endless Excel spreadsheets – all in collaboration with architects, planning teams, and construction companies. There was no tool to simplify this process.
They asked themselves the question: How do we bring order to the chaos of building products and pave the way to certified buildings – so that sustainable building is worthwhile?
Materius was born from this idea. Today, we are an independent corporation with a platform that solves precisely this problem: data and datasheets for building products in one place, the testing logic of building certification digitally mapped, and the entire team united throughout the entire construction process.
From construction product chaos to sustainable building.
How a problem became a solution
There are moments when you have the opportunity to put a promising idea into practice. That's how the story of Materius began, with a simple observation.
Three years ago, two EBP experts in sustainable building discussed the lack of a tool that facilitates the management of building products in certified construction projects. The team, together with architects, planning teams, and construction companies, repeatedly invested enormous amounts of time and energy in collecting documentation, manually conducting material tests, and maintaining data in Excel spreadsheets.
In early 2024, the two experts in sustainable building presented their idea to the EBP Venture Accelerator – a solution to precisely this problem. Since then, a steadily growing team from the construction industry, software development, and consulting has been developing the Materius application.
Materius is a wholly owned venture of EBP Switzerland and was launched in 2025.
